Microclimate Ecology & Biodiversity (MEB) Conference 2026

From 01 June 2026 to 05 June 2026

Montpellier, France

Following Antwerp in 2022 and Helsinki in 2024, the international Microclimate Ecology & Biodiversity (MEB) Conference will take place in Montpellier from June 1 to 5, 2026. Supported by the PEPR FORESTT programme, this new edition will bring together the global scientific community to address a major challenge : understanding how microclimates influence biodiversity and the resilience of forest ecosystems.

The MEB Network unites researchers passionate about the study of microclimates, fine-scale variations in temperature, humidity, and light that shape the life of organisms at a small scale. By combining field observations, modeling, remote sensing data, and interdisciplinary approaches, the network helps to better understand how these local gradients influence biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, and their response to climate change.

After two particularly successful editions in Antwerp (2022) and Helsinki (2024), MEB 2026 promises to be a major scientific event, open to ecologists, forest scientists, modelers, land managers, and stakeholders.

Five internationally renowned keynote labs are already confirmed :

  • Yanjun Su — Forest structure, vegetation models & remote sensing (Chinese Academy of Sciences)
  • Angélica Casanova-Katny — Functional plant & lichen ecology, ecophysiology (Universidad Católica de Temuco)
  • Nico Eisenhauer — Soil ecology & plant-soil interactions (Universität Leipzig)
  • Karen De Pauw — Plant community ecology & urban forests (Universiteit Gent)
  • Belen Fadrique — Plant distribution and redistribution, microrefugia (University of Liverpool)

Beyond scientific presentations, MEB 2026 will provide a unique platform for exchanges between researchers, land managers, and forest stakeholders, to discuss strategies for ecosystem resilience in the face of global changes.

Join us in Montpellier from June 1 to 5, 2026 !
Local Coordination : Eva Grill, Xavier Morin, Rémy Beugnon & Jonathan Lenoir
